The siver-gray kittypet with fur that sparkled like fire padded into the camp behind Jaysong and Hazelberry. Dewstar emerged from her den as they entered the camp clearing and jumped onto the High Rock (I didn't really go with the actual results, but thanks for the suggestions) and call the clan together. "CloverClan, this cat is joining as an apprentice. She is an outsider, but she has proven worthy. She will be named Mistpaw from the way her fur sparkles like mist. I will be her mentor."
"But that's a kittypet!" someone spat out.
"Yeah!" others joined in.
Brookshadow (if it's okay if I use your cat) crouched down and lashed her tail. "Your just a soft kittypt and you won't learn the ways of a warrior. You are not clan born and will never earn your ways into the clan!" she says to Mistpaw.
"Don't back down!" Dewstar hisses.
After a moment's hesitation, Mistpaw growls, "I won't." She leaps at Brookshadow and gives two hard blows to her side. Brookshadow twists around and grabs onto the pink collar with her teeth. She yanks and it flies off after pinning Mistpaw down. Mistpaw pummels at Brookshadow's belly and throws her off once she lashed at her ears.
"See," Brookshadow says with a line of blood trickling from the corner of her mouth, "with that stupid kittypet collar, it will always be at disadvantedge to you. It is a mark of your heritedge, coming from those twolegs."
Mistpaw walks over to the pink twoleg collar, turns around, and scuffs up dirt around it. "Not anymore," she growls.

Stunned, Brookshadow is too shocked to say anything. Then, she dips her head in acknowledgment. "I am truly sorry, Mistpaw. I see that you are a true warrior, who will become a great cat. Friends?" Brookshadow holds out her paw in a gesture of polite humility.

"How can we be sure she will be a worthy warrior?", Lightpaw called out. "She certainly has skill, but I've seen plenty of kittypets with fighting ability who prefer a warm Twoleg nest to a cold den. And what does a kittypet know of StarClan and the warrior code? You need to be Clanborn, or at least wild-born, to feel in tune with the forest."

Lightpaw studied the kittypet. She looked strong enough, but Lightpaw still wasn't sure that taking a kittypet into the Clan was the best thing to do. She waited for Dewstar to answer her questions (see my post above).

Dewstar looked down at Lightpaw. "She has proven herself and she will learn about the warrior code and StarClan like any other clan born warrior. Infact, Mistypaw will teach her about StarClan for the rest of the day. What she believes doesn't affect her whole clan," she said glancing at someone she knows does not believe in StarClan.

We will probably have some training sessions together. In the mean time, help yourself to the fresh-kill pile, and try to make more friends than enemies." She blinked kindly at Mistpaw, then turned to go find Skypaw.
She nodded to Cloverstreak. "See ya later, Otterpaw," she meowed then walked over to Mistypaw, where she would learn all about StarClan.

Brookshadow looks at Lightpaw and reprimands her: "Hasn't young Mistpaw proven herself worthy already? I mean, look at me." She gestures with an air of amusement at her dusty fur and scratches down her side where Mistpaw had injured her. "You should help and befriend this cat, not be against her. Haven't you heard about the hero Firestar of Thunderclan? He was a kittypet, too."

Talonpaw runs towards Mistpaw and Mistypaw beside the medicine cat den. "Hi, Mistpaw! You're so lucky, your mentor is Dewstar! I really hope we can train together. You're a really good fighter, I bet you'll be awesome! But not as good as me!" Talonpaw added jokingly. He stops, realizing he was blabbering. Why was he even talking to this cat? But he felt strangely drawn to the pretty silver tabby she-cat.

You stay there in StarClan, until you become forgotten, and fade away. Any questions about that part?" Mistypaw asked.

"Come, I want to show you a hunting technique at the River Oak." Brookshadow leads the way out of the camp, calling over her shoulder, "Have you ever hunted rabbits before?"
ReplyDeleteTalonpaw watches Mistpaw talk to Otterpaw, knowing instantly what was sparkling in the silver tabby's eyes. Stupid tom, he scolds himself. Of course she wouldn't like you- start liking another she-cat. Like Lightpaw, or something. Still, he crossly stomps his way to the apprentices den.

ReplyDeletePleased by her apprentices' acceptance to the new cat in the clan, Brookshadow walked back to where Lightpaw was standing. "Sure," she meowed, padding over to where Mistpaw was standing with Mistypaw, "That is, if Dewstar and Mistypaw says it's okay."
