Songheart peered from over the rock at a squirrel nibbling a seed.She smiled and slowly hunched down,watching closely.The squirrel stopped and raised it's head,sniffing the air.Songheart flashed out and caught it in her jaws.She quickly bit hard on it's back and it fell limp in her jaws."There."Songheart scooped a hole in the ground and buried her kill for later.
ReplyDelete"You saw that, Skypaw? I want you to try that... Can you scent any prey near by?" She waited as the apprentice sniffed the air carefully. "Now go and try to hunt it." She ordered after Skypaw dectected the scent of a mouse.

Songheart felt her fur get hot with embarrassment."Sorry about scaring that mouse."She rumbled a purr.
ReplyDelete"Don't worry about it. Everyone makes mistakes." Cloverstreak purred sympathetically. "Ooh! I hear a bird over..." she trails of to check the scent. "Over there! I will be right back." She stalked carefully over towards the bird. It was a nice, plump pigeon and it was too busy forraging among the leaf litter to notice her approach. With a quick leap, she landed on the pigeon's back and snapped it's neck before it could make a noise. Then she turned back to the clearing to put her prey with the other's.

Songheart smelled a thrush and heard it fluttering a few fox-lengths away.She crept forward,then halted when she smelled a fresh scent of fox.Peering through the ferns,she saw a fox with a freshly killed thrush in it's mouth.Songheart's eyes went wide and she backed away."There's a FOX over there!It doesn't smell us yet."She whispered to Cloverstreak.

Songheart stared at the hole in the ferns she left when she saw it."I haven't seen a fox in forever.Why now?"She remembered the last time she encountered a fox it killed her parents and brothers.
ReplyDeleteLightpaw peered out of the ferns. She had smelled the fox long before Songheart had spotted it, and watched it kill the thrush. She hadn't said anything--why should she?
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't like the Clan was going to starve because a fox took a piece of prey, and she obviously couldn't fight off a fox by herself!
Lightpaw snorted and retreated into the ferns.
"Skypaw, Otterpaw. Do as Stormwater says. Everyone else, surround the fox. I don't want the apprentices to get hurt fighting it... Nobody attacks until we have more information on it. We will go and check it out, find out what we can, and report back to Dewstar." Cloverstreak quietly took control because she was head of the patrol, but she kept glancing at Stormwater to make sure what she was suggesting was okay.

"Okay," Lightpaw said, nodding to Stormwater. Me getting hurt?, she thought to herself as she ran off towards camp. Not likely. I could take on a fox with a few other warriors any day!

Or just guard it until it dies?" She turned her huge green eyes on Stormwater and murmured, "We shouldn't make it suffer."

"No, I'll do that. You guys gather the prey and head home. I just wonder what was wrong with that thrush," he says and walks towards the fox.

ReplyDeleteThe shaking of the ferns revealed a mouse scurring out into the open. Mistfire chases after it and jumps squarley on it's back, snapping it instantly. She picks it up in her outh and carries it back to the Great Stone.

Icefrost glanced at a plump rabbit hopping along. "Nevermind." she told Rowanfoot. Icefrost sprinted off and soon caught up with it. In a moments glance, she bit the rabbit's neck and happily carried it off to the Great Stone.

"Okay." Rowanfoot whispered, than stalked after a sparrow, pinning it's wings acurately to the ground as it was taking flight. He sunk his teeth into it's neek, killing it.

Icefrost was already back at the Great Stone, but she didn't see Rowanfoot or Mistfire. She decided to sit down with her prey and wait for them to come back.

Mistfire scented the area and found a blackbird nearby. She silently stalked to a tree and climbed up to it. Once she was on a branch high up, she jumped off. The blackbird went into flight, exactly as Mistfire planned and she landed right on it, th wieght crushing it, killing it. Mistfire added this to her pile.

After Rowan put down to sparrow he padded back into the forest, hearing a squirrel above on a branch.
ReplyDeleteI think i can reach that. he leaped, his claws hooking on the squirrel's tail and he clawed it's throat swiftly, making it go limp and he put that next to his sparrow.

She heard another mouse nibbling on some nuts near some tree roots. Mistfire stalked it, keeping down wind, and at the right moment, pounced. She nipped at it's neck and turned lifeless. taking it back to the pile, she waited for Rowanfoot and Icefost. I think this is good, she thought.

Sighing, Icefrost decided to go back hunting. She scented the air and found a vole nibbling on a seed. Icefrost stalked it carefully and pounced before the vole could run. She bit it's neck swiftly and added it to her pile.

Rowanfoot realized they were all here, and maybe they should start heading back when two snarling rouges burst from the trees, leaping on them.

Tigerclaw tackled the small tom pinning him easily. "I didn't know you had kits running around in the forest," he snarled.

Swiftshadow snarled at Icefrost with foam flecked lips. She leaped onto the other she-cat, sinking her teeth into Icefrost's neck.

Mistfire hears the screeching of cats and runs into the clearing. "Icefrost!" she yowls, seeing the foam that lined the rouges mouth. She knew what that was and ramms into the black cat's side and bites into her neck until it felt lifeless and cold.

Tigerclaw knew he could kill the small tom either way, but if he did, he'd be swarmed. He stepped off of him and backed away, saying something before he ran off, "This in't over. Especially for you, kit-warrior. Better watch your back."

She shook it all off, not waiting for the other warriors and took her two mice by the tail and her sparrow under her chin.

Dovecloud waddles into the clearing and lays in a patch of sun. She sighs and starts to groom herself, but she can't reach every area of her body because her belly is so swollen.

Icefrost grabs her prey, ignoring the pain that still lingered in her body. She sighed and followed Mistfire out.

brightpaw stalked a mouse she had spotted and pounced ,with clean strike the mouse was dead and haging in her jaws she walked tawards a tree and buried the mouse.she tried to smell for prey ut couldn't find any."can you smell anything?"she asked ravenwing.

just as she was near him,she turned around and headed down the slope tawards camp and the warriors den.what was the use?if he didn't love her,then what could she do?she told her self grimly.
